The History of Magic

Magic is a type of art that many people find widely interesting. It is an art form that catches one eye because of the entertainment it creates for a viewer. Magic has been known as a performing art form since it entertains a select audience by creating an event that would distort then senses (illusion) or some form of supernatural feat. People who perform such things are called magicians.

It is great to watch such great performers such as Lance Burton, Jason Latimer, Florian Zimmer, Criss Angel, Franz Harary, and much more. These performers perform great tricks and illusions and are recognized worldwide by both magicians and viewers. These performers are also part of a magician community called The Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques (FISM) or International Federation of Magic Societies. This community represents more than 50000 magicians spanning more than 30 countries around the world. The FISM organization hosts a FISM conference every three years, where magicians come together and compete in “Best of” categories. Some categories are such as Best of Stage Magic, Best Manipulation Act, and Best Close-up act.

There are many styles to magic such as stage magic, street magic, close up magic, mentalism, escapology, among others. Besides the FISM organization is one of the many organizations that represent magicians. There is also an Academy of Magical Arts located at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. It could be seen as a real life Hogwarts. I, myself, find magic quite interesting. I enjoy learning the art and also love seeing the reaction from viewers after a trick is performed. I have been practicing magic for about 3 years now. Seeing the reaction that people receive when a trick is performed is one of the main things that motivate me to keep practicing this art. I do perform on stage magic and also perform some street magic.
